ASTU Holds Training on Intellectual Property Rights and Patent Application

The University-Industry Linkage and Technology Transfer Directorate of Adama Science and Technology University (ASTU), in collaboration with the Ethiopian Intellectual Property Authority (EIPA), successfully organized a training session on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and Patent Application from March 5 to March 6, 2025, at the ASTU ICT Smart Class.

 

The primary objective of the training was to prevent intellectual property theft and empower innovators and researchers at ASTU by enhancing their awareness of intellectual property-related issues.
The event commenced with an opening speech by Dr. Temesgen Debelo, Director of University-Industry Linkage and Technology Transfer at ASTU. Dr. Temesgen emphasized the crucial role of intellectual property rights in fostering innovation, stating, “Intellectual property rights can only be fully realized when researchers actively apply for patents and commercialize their innovations, rather than allowing them to gather dust on a shelf.”

The Director reaffirmed ASTU’s unwavering support for its research staff, highlighting that this commitment is instrumental in the university's pursuit of autonomy and its broader contribution to national socioeconomic development.
