The School of Postgraduate Studies at Adama Science and Technology University (ASTU) has organized a comprehensive training session on the implementation of its anti-plagiarism policy framework and postgraduate guidelines. The one-day awareness creation session held on March 28, 2025, at Borati Hall, brought together the academic staff, research personnel, and the top management.
The session was officially opened by Professor Tegene Desalegn, Academic Programs Director at ASTU. In his welcome adress Prof. Tegene emphasized the importance of the training, highlighting that the anti-plagiarism policy and postgraduate guidelines are critical to fulfilling ASTU’s mission, vision, and core values. He underscored that these policies contribute to the university’s goal of becoming a premier center of excellence in academics and research.
The training featured presentations by six officers from various offices under the Academic Vice President and the Chief Executive Officer of the President’s Office( CEO). The key topics covered included:
-Implementation of the Anti-Plagiarism Policy. Framework – presented by Prof. Yadessa Melaku, CEO of ASTU President Office
-Implementation of the Anti-Plagiarism Guideline – presented by Dr. Legesse Lemecha, Dean of Postgraduate Studies
-Implementation of ASTU Postgraduate Guidelines – presented by
Dr. Demisse Jobir, Dean of Continues Education Institute
-Implementation of Anti-Plagiarism Software and Library Responsibilities – presented by Mr. Yoseph Bizuneh, Executive Officer of Library Service
-Challenges in Graduate Programs and Registrar & School of Graduate Studies Responsibilities – presented by Mr. Segni Adugna, Associate Dean of Registrar and Mr. Bayisa Taye, Associate Dean of Postgraduate Studies
During the presentations, the speakers outlined the objectives, scope, and policy strategies for preventing and detecting plagiarism. They also detailed the roles and responsibilities of various university offices in ensuring compliance with the anti-plagiarism policy and postgraduate guidelines. The presentation was followed by a question -and -answer session providing participants with an opportunity to engage with the presenters for further clarification.
Dr. Teshome Abdo, Vice President for Academic Affairs, delivered the closing remarks. He emphasized the importance of a collective effort in combating plagiarism and upholding academic integrity. Dr. Teshome stressed that maintaining high academic standards is essential; as ASTU graduates they represent the University in their respective careers.
The training concluded with a call for continued dedication to effectively implementing the policies, reinforcing ASTU’s commitment to academic excellence and research integrity.
