
Delegates from Adama Science and Technology University (ASTU), including Dr. Lemi Guta Enyadene, President, and Dr. Bedasa Abdisa Gonfa, Director of the Office of Internationalization and Partnership, visited Hubei University of Technology (HBUT) in Wuhan, China, on May 28, 2025, to establish a strategic partnership.
During the visit, the delegates were warmly welcomed by a team led by Mr. He Xingyang, Vice President of HBUT. In his welcoming remarks, Mr. He provided an overview of HBUT and expressed high expectations for future higher education collaboration between the two institutions. He emphasized that China-Africa cooperation has always been a key strategic priority for HBUT’s international engagement, noting Ethiopia as a significant partner country. He expressed hope that this visit would deepen cooperation with ASTU in areas such as joint scientific research, faculty and student exchanges, and contributions to the economic and social development of both countries.
Dr. Lemi Guta Enyadene, President of ASTU, expressed his sincere gratitude for the warm hospitality extended by HBUT. In his speech, he highlighted the historic economic, political, developmental, and educational ties between China and Ethiopia. Dr. Lemi emphasized the importance of learning from China's advancements in higher education and technology transfer, and viewed this visit as a pivotal opportunity to promote pragmatic cooperation between the two universities. These include faculty and student exchange programs, joint scientific research projects, and capacity-building initiatives.
He also presented an overview of ASTU, underscoring the strong alignment between the academic programs of ASTU and HBUT, and affirmed that HBUT is an ideal partner for ASTU in achieving educational excellence. Dr. Lemi extended special thanks to the OS-EASY GROUP HOLDING LTD team—Mr. Xing Taiquan, International Director, and Ms. Wang Shuqin, African Region Manager—for sponsoring the visit and facilitating the connection between the two universities.
The ASTU delegation also toured the OS-EASY GROUP HOLDING LTD facilities and engaged in discussions on potential areas of collaboration. During the session, Mr. Xing Taiquan provided an overview of the company and showcased applications of cloud computing platforms in African educational settings, with a particular focus on Ethiopia. He expressed a strong interest in working closely with Ethiopian higher education institutions, especially ASTU, to leverage complementary strengths.
To formalize the partnership, ASTU and HBUT signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) outlining cooperation in, but not limited to, the following areas:
-Joint education programs
-Faculty academic exchange programs
-Student mobility programs
-Joint academic conferences and workshops
-Joint scientific research and establishment of joint laboratories
-Technology innovation and transfer
-Innovation and entrepreneurship cooperation
