Adama Science and Technology University (ASTU) officially welcomed its incoming class of the 2018 Ethiopian academic year with a comprehensive orientation program designed to equip new students with the basic information and knowledge essential for a successful academic journey.
 
Professor Yadesa Melaku, Chief Executive Officer of the University President Office and representative of the President, set an encouraging tone by warmly welcoming the new students. He articulated the university's core mission: to educate and nurture highly responsible, and internationally competent graduates in the fields of applied science and engineering. Professor Yadesa also highlighted ASTU’s distinctive academic features, including the Fast Track program and the opportunity for Double Major/Minor studies, made possible through a harmonized curriculum benchmarked against internationally renowned institutions such as POSTECH, KAIST, and leading universities in the USA and India.
 
Beyond academic instruction, he emphasized ASTU's strong focus on providing diverse skill development training to enhance the quality and employability of its graduates.
 
The orientation featured active participation from various relevant offices of the university. Professor Tegene Dessaleng, Director of Academic Programs, delivered an insightful presentation on ASTU's unique curriculum structure and the academic programs and departments in five colleges of the university.
 
Representing the Office of the Main Registrar, Mr. Habtemicheal Wude provided detailed information on academic rules and regulations, admission procedures, the registration process, and the university’s grading system.
Further guidance was provided by Mr. Getachew Zewde from the Office of the Dean of Students’ Affairs, who elaborated on the student code of conduct. Mrs. Sewunet Bora, Executive Officer of Women and Social Affairs, outlined the various services and training programs available to support students' personal, academic social development. To ensure a safe and secure campus environment, Commander Mesfin Altaye, Executive Officer of Security and Safety, presented the campus rules and safety regulations that students are expected to follow.
 
In a forward-looking address, Mr. Desita Zerihun, Director of the e-Learning Center, explained how students can leverage digital tools and technology to enhance their learning experience and contribute to Ethiopia’s broader digital transformation.
 
The orientation program concluded with a welcoming speech by Yonas Abera, President of the Student Union, who greeted his new peers and introduced the services, support, and advocacy roles provided by the union.
 
Overall, the comprehensive orientation program is believed to provide first-year students with a strong foundation to begin their academic life at Adama Science and Technology University with a clear understanding of the learning environment.
