Dr. Solomon Tiruneh the Vice President of Administration and Development of Adama Science and Technology University gave the opening speech. According to Dr. Solomon, there has been a long-standing struggle to ensure women's equality in the world. Through this process, it was possible to produce and see many influential and exemplary women in science, literature, politics, and other fields.
In his speech, Dr. Solomon mentioned that Ethiopia is one of the countries that are paying attention to women's equality and benefits and it is not only necessary to celebrate March 8, but also to always pay attention to women and do important work. Dr. Solomon stated that at Adama Science and Technology University, a lot of work is being done in terms of encouraging and empowering women. Mentioned, giving scholarships to female students and teachers as well as bringing and encouraging female employees of the university to leadership positions among others.
Mrs. Fikreaddis Jimma, who presented a research paper titled International Women's Day, explained that the struggle and movement for women's equality and rights that started in New York City in March 1857 by the textile workers were not only resulted in answers to many women's equality questions but also in 1975, It paved the way for the United Nations to resolve for International Women's Day to be celebrated globally. In her research paper Teacher Fikaredis stated that women's equality questions are still not fully answered and it may take several years to ensure complete equality.
On the occasion of the day, various educational and entertaining events were held. After the event, awards were presented to female students from the 2nd year and above.
Dr. Teshome Abdo, vice president of Academic Affairs of Adama Science and Technology University who was present at the event gave awards to 67 female students from each department who achieved excellent results.
